The Queen of the Highlands is
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

New during Katie's reign, the St. Andrew's Queen of the Highlands was required to participate in a philanthropy project during. Katie participated in the American Cancer Society Making Strides walk which supports breast cancer research. She choose this project during the photo shoot, as one of the queen Directors, Bree Brownlee had recently been diagnosed with and survived breast cancer. With Bree being only 23 years old at the time, Katie felt that this was something that could help bring awareness to the dangers of breast cancer to young women. In October, she walked with Bree's highland dance studio in the Making Strides Breast Cancer walk. Together they raised over $8,000 for breast cancer research!

Your mother ... your daughter ... your sister ... your wife ... your friend ... no woman is immune to breast cancer. It can strike anyone, anywhere, anytime. Katie supports Making Strides because she knows that the American Cancer Society's lifesaving work makes a difference in the lives of women every day – and someday, it may make a difference in the life of someone we love.

Today, there is more hope than ever for people touched by breast cancer. Early detection and new treatments have contributed to a steady decline in breast cancer mortality rates. However, there is still work to be done. That's why she's walking in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. She wants to do all she can to support the American Cancer Society's lifesaving research, education, advocacy, and patient services programs so that, someday, breast cancer will no longer be a threat to the women we love.

Together we can make a difference.
