Warmest greetings to members and officers of the
St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit

I am deeply honored to be selected to represent St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit as your 2009 Queen of the Highlands. The entire process was exciting and very rewarding. It was an unexpected bonus to spend time with, and get to know the other finalists, the Queen of the Highlands directors, committee members, and former Queens of the Highland. We share a love of all things Scottish and a desire to pass on Scottish history and traditions. The other finalists are amazing women who are very involved in their local communities. On behalf of all of all of us we sincerely thank the Queen of the Highlands directors and selection committee for their gracious hosting of the luncheon and events that led up to the spirited Tartan Day Ceilidh on Saturday April 4, 2009.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am currently a junior at Central Michigan University studying Athletic Training, Sports Medicine with minors in Leadership and Exercise Science. I combine my passion for teaching and sports through my work as a ski instructor at Boyne Mountain in the winter, swim instructor at a Varsity Day Camp in the summer, and during the school year at Central Michigan University’s community swim program. I enjoy volunteering for American Cancer Society, Livingston Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Mountain Bike Association, and Focus Hope of Detroit.

I am pleased to congratulate and introduce two wonderful court members, 1st Runner-Up Ashley Smith and 2nd Runner-Up Kelly Malburg. These lovely and talented women will join me throughout the coming year to represent St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit at many events. I invite you to join us as we participate in the celebrations and activities on our schedule.

I appreciate the trust that the committee and St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit place in me and the 2009 Court. During this coming year I will do my utmost to faithfully represent St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit in all that I do. We intend to use this site to help you get to know Kelly, Ashley and me better and to introduce you to our philanthropic platform. I will also use this site to keep you up to date with all our travels and events.

Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to personally meeting many members as I embark on this exciting year as your 2009 Queen of the Highlands.

Warmest regards,

Meghan Hescheles
